Great post and I was also disturbed by the study.

I’m curious, do you think there’s an efficiency argument to be made, that once the brain knows there’s a faster way to accomplish something, it won’t expend resources doing it “the hard way”? From that standpoint, using AI seems highly rational.

I also feel like we don’t have programming that challenges us. Most shows are about singing, cooking, remedial quiz games, shows about cops, fire houses, doctors, and lawyers. And let’s not forget reality TV. And most words are now abbreviated or autocorrected. It’s a shame.

Are more people becoming impactful?

If in the 1990s it took a physics student to study, assimilate, imply, and argue 50 research papers to write one for themself, it would take lesser full paper studies today with the aide of AI.

Does it take much less effort to get the same outcome? For sure.

Will it make a generation and further of humans, less capable on their own? Maybe yes...hmm.

Jab writing invent/popular hui thi to usko bhi vilify kara tha logo ne, memory kharab hai islie likhna pad raha hai etc.

Socrates ne bhi kuch kaha tha ki writing destroys memory and creates a weak mind.

Socrates ka argument kya tha ye to koi jaan hi nahi sakta, he didnt write a single word in his life xD.

Anyways, mera guess ye hai ki cognitive reorganization hoga, abhi hot topic hai islie AI research ya to overtly optimistic hai ya doomerism. Researchers ko pata hi hai kis project par funding milegi. Meta level par to research ko bhi question kar hi sakte hai.

Kuch cognitive faculties externalize hoti hai aur bachi kuchi aur kaam me laga leta hai insaan, ye to hua hi hai har tech k sath; GPS, internet, e-commerce etc. Shayad ye hi ho jaye is tech k sath bhi.
